Mini Tag Album My girlfriends and me had a short retreat to Bali in November, the last time we had a trip together was almost eight years ago to Bali as well. To help them keep a nice memento of this trip, I made two mini tag albums, one for each of my friends.

I made the albums using some excess Project Life 3 x 4 cards. Here are some of my favorite pages.

It's December again! Oh my time flies! Here are my last
projects for the month using Studio Calico's November kits: Sock Hop and Bobby Sock.

First
I have a simple Thank You 6" x 6" card combining kraft and blue with a
touch of soft pink, all from main kit Sock Hop. Flowers were cut using
Sizzix Eclips.

Card made with Studio Calico's November Kit Sock Hop

Next
I have a more cheerful project; a Birthday 6" x 6" card using add-on
kit Bobby Socks. The flag lines were manually cut, layered and adhered
with foam dots.
November's main kit Sock Hop. I used the white dotted cardstock as a
base. Then I trimmed the vellum to 11 x 11 and laid it on the center of
the white base. Using strips of patterned paper I created the design on
the left. Then embellish away with the Basic Grey washi tape and wooden
flourish! (I painted one of the woodies with red ink!) The yellow 'doily' shape was stamped with a Martha Stewart punch.
A Layout for Scrappin StudioToday I will share a layout I created using November's main kit; Sock
Hop. This is a two-photo layout of my son playing with those cute
pedal plastic cars you find at Toys'r'Us, he loves those, but then
again he is obsessed with anything with wheels!

Here's a quick and easy tutorial to the layout:

Firstly I determined where I wanted the patterned papers. I decided to use the 2 pieces of promotional papers that came with the kit, they were already a good size :)

Next I lay over the other layers. I needed a red to make the layout pop and I sneaked in some leftover paper from September's kit hehe (the one with the box numbers).

Then I removed everything and misted some red ink on the yellow base paper.

I created some embellishments using the arrow stamps. Stamp in black on the paper and fussy cut. Use foam dots to adhere it to the layout and watch it pop! Do check out the awesome Sock Hop here!

Well that's all for now and thanks for visiting!
I'm thrilled
with this month's kits as the colors are so fresh and bright and I just
love the little clear stamps and fun brads! Can't wait to use them all!
:)

On to my projects... I'm starting with Bobby Socks, November's #1 add on kit. Get the kit here :)

First
is a fresh and simple birthday card, love how the patterns in the kit
complement each other so well, and that red tag is just delicious :)
For
the second project, I used the remaining papers to create a shabby

Here I altered a Tim Holtz tag using the leftover papers from the card.
That's my first post for Studio Calico's Bobby
Socks... I have more to come... now I'll be off for a mini vacation with
the hubs next week so you'll only hear from me next weekend. I need to
find myself some fresh new inspiration and perhaps some travel photos
for a layout or mini album, stay tuned ;)

Thanks for dropping by! Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi there! Thanks for being here! Hope you had a nice weekend and I hope this Monday's not too blue for you :) Today's post is to reminisce Lucas' first birthday ... my boy was born on 4th September 2010, that's 2 years ago. We celebrated his first birthday last year with just about everyone! Family, friends, church friends, colleague, ex-colleagues and wonderful people aplenty.

We had great photos taken at the party and I was planning to document the birthday in a special canvas album, so I ordered the album and all the embellies like back in September last year but I only managed to complete the album this year. Talk about procrastination! Here are the canvas pages which I had fun with lots of misting, iron-transfers and embellishing. I used a Prima Canvas Album 10" x 9" with 5 canvas inserts. Love the thick double layered inserts, perfect for heavy painting, misting and whatever not.

Here are my pages....
I'm on a roll here. I actually created this layout this very afternoon itself. I'm suddenly just bursting with mojo after a full day workshop yesterday with Jaz Lee. I'll have a separate post on the class projects, it was such fun getting together with my croppy group of friends. In fact this photo print was given to me yesterday by Chris, a fellow crafter.

I got these papers from Papermarket at Raffles when I was down in Singapore in August. hadn't had the chance to touch it till today! *yay* Seriously I have stash enough to line up from here to Timbuktoo... and yet I still keep on hoarding and hoarding.... anyway here you go...
Now that annual budget and the event of the year is behind me (work stuff), I managed to squeeze some time for some much needed scrap therapy. Just sharing 2 simple cards here. I've no purpose for them, just felt like pasting paper to paper and making use of my neglected stash hehehe.
Hope you had a great week, more than half a year is gone and
in a matter of months we are closing 2012! Scary how time flies. And
scary how fast babies grow too, it feels like only yesterday when my boy
was a helpless infant and today he is a demanding toddler! Today I'm
sharing a mini album entitled L-U-C-A-S, a tribute to my boy and this
yellow car which he loved. (I say 'loved' because the car has since been
replaced by many others and is also, sadly missing a wheel!)

I started by cutting cardstock and papers into 5" x 6" sizes, all are from July's main kit and add on kit: Elmwood Park and Capture the Flag.
Then I used remnants of the papers to embellish. The main idea was to
spell out L-U-C-A-S so I started with the lettering pages and then
decorated behind each with photos etc.

The lettering are achieved by fussy the cutting the letters from this pp:

Basic Grey - PB & J - Thermos

I then used the canvas ribbon (from Capture the Flag kit) as the cover centrepiece....

Last
step - simply punch a hole at the top left corner and use a ring or
chain to hold the pages together. Finally here's how the album look like
page by page.

Now
I'd like to share a simple tutorial on how to make the canvas ribbon
bloom. You will need; needle, thread, ribbon with some width, buttons
and twine to decorate the centre and some glue dots to adhere the bloom
to paper.

Step 1: Gather the edge of the ribbon into a fan shape, thicker ribbons are easier to work with, this canvas fabric is perfect!

Step 2: Thread a needle and thread through it section by section till you have enough to become a bloom.

Step 3: Sew up at the joining section and knot it - this will be the behind.

Step 4: Flip to the other side and you're almost done - add
finishing touches to the centre with buttons or other embellishments.

Hope you like this album and bloom :) Feel free to check out the awesome Scrappin Studio kits! Thanks for dropping by and have a great week ahead!

Hi there fellow scrappers! Here is my first Scrappin Studio post and I’m working with the delightful Elmwood Park and Capture the Flag, Studio Calico’s July’s main kit and add-on kit. Both are simply adorably playful and fun ... they make me think of playgrounds and carnivals in the summer! And gosh those wood veneer tweety birds are to-die-for!

I'm going with a more classic theme with this post as I decided to scrap this photo taken with me dad and brother last December at dad’s 60th birthday. As you can see, at 60 (centre), he is still more fashionable than me and bro together! Ok this pic was actually taken back in December last year but I haven't had the oppurtunity to work on it hehe.

Slightly rustic layout with a touch of cute with the wood veneer tweets. I added emphasis to the photo with some stenciling using distress ink (Tea Dye) and punchinella. (Lace ribbon, sentiment rub-on, cream prima bloom, ink, sticklers and liquid pearls not from kit)
The theme was floral and we had to bring our own handmade name tag with a floral theme as well. In addition to having a hands-on shushi making workshop, we had yummy lunch and doorgifts courtesy of Sakae Sushi and Papier Love *heart* And above all, it was a rare oppurtunity for me to catch up with my dear scrap buddies whom I rarely ever see since I started work.
I'm so happy I found time this weekend to upload a recent project :) My dearest hubby celebrated his birthday last Monday and I spent alot of time creating a very special card for him which I'm thrilled to share here. I used Cardabilities Sketch #53 as the inspiration for the card-front layout. On the inside, I scrapped a photo of us together to make it a more precious keepsake :)
After such a long interval I really went crazy with mixing all kinds of colors and patterns here plus paint splatters and misting and fussy cutting. I missed scrapping so much!

Well, I've got a busy weekend ahead of me, family gathering plus it's my dear hubby's birthday this Monday! Now I gotta go rush off and make a card for him! *wink*

Happy weekend y'all! *muax*Marinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07767103834688080781noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301732385133183825.post-53124780233245547622012-02-21T23:43:00.002+08:002012-02-21T23:45:12.542+08:00CardPatterns Sketch 153I know you're seeing alot less of me nowadays... I'm putting in almost 12 hours of work a day! It's been crazy but lots of fun nonetheless. Fortunately, between laundry and whatnot, I managed to squeeze in some time tonight to upload a card I made over the weekend based on a sketch by CardPatterns *yay* So here's a really quickie post :)
Thanks for dropping by and have a lovely crafty day *hugs*Marinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07767103834688080781noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301732385133183825.post-34376861075164997992012-02-19T17:48:00.000+08:002012-02-19T17:48:27.011+08:00The Love Mini AlbumThis post was meant for Valentine's Day last week but unfortunately work kept away from my PC so this is slightly delayed. I hope some of you are still in the mood for romance! Anyhow, hubby and I had a late V Day dinner after a long day at work, it was nice getting to be with each other regardless the hour :)

I originally made this album for a Scrap N Crop class based on the kit that Val gave me. The class was last Sunday and it was actually pretty good, we had 8 registrations but only 5 came, which was great nevertheless, we had lotsa space and lotsa fun too. And to those who came, I want to express my heartfelt appreciation for taking time off to come all the way to Kajang :)

Here are some of the images of the FRONT and OUTSIDE of the mini album:
My first week of work went by pretty well, it's hectic yet exciting, I'm quite exhilarated to be back in action I'm a total hopping bunny buzzing with enthusiasm! Let's hope and pray it stays that way a looooong way to go heheh!

I had an awesome class at Scrap N Crop's CropArty yesterday, we had five wonderful 'students' who did so great despite the quick pace, it was just chatting, laughing, cutting, pasting and more chatting :) And then there was lotsa shopping of course! Big thanks to Val of Scrap N Crop for the opportunity to be a guest teacher at her Scrap Abode and also for having me as the featured artists for Feb/March 2012!!! *yay* I'm just so honored and thrilled!

Well, today I'd like to share some 'masculine' cards made for guys, these cards were actually commissioned jobs from my friends cum valued customers *you girls are awesome* << hugs >>

I always find it quite challenging to make cards for guys as I have to go easy on the flowers and butterflies which I LOVE! I'll still sneak in a couple of them sparingly while making sure the overall design and color tone is not overly 'girly'. These cards were made using mainly MME's Lost & Found 2 6x6 pad (Breeze) as well as some of the 12 x 12 from the same collection, among other matching papers and whatnots from my stash.

Here's a rustic themed card using browns, green and pale yellow:

Minimal use of blooms & butterflies but I can't stay away completely!

That's all for now! Thanks for dropping by :) I have a huge Valentine project to share which will be posted in conjunction with Valentine's Day, hehehe so do stay tuned! Meantime, happy scrapping folks!Marinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07767103834688080781noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301732385133183825.post-78441194298866276652012-01-22T15:47:00.002+08:002012-01-22T15:51:36.429+08:00With Love for CardabilitiesIt's the eve of the Chinese New Year! Looking forward to a yummy reunion dinner tonight with my in laws. My son will enjoy all the attention from the grandparents, and this year is extra special as we now a new addition; my little niece who is 3 months old and joining the reunion dinner for the first time! :D Well, even though the reunion dinner is a big and happy event, there's always a poignant nostalgic feeling in me when this day comes. Why? Well, in our Chinese custom, once a daughter is "married out", she will no longer join her own family for the annual feast, like for forever. I'll always remember those rowdy crazy and fun dinners at my mum's place with her maternal family, all the uncles and aunts and cousins will come together and turn the house upside down! I enjoy reminiscing those busy afternoons spent with my dear mum preparing food, cooking and decorating the house. At times we even experimented new dishes to show off to the folks hehehe :D My in-laws on the other hand, don't cook at home so we eat at a restaurant, the food is wonderful no doubt but it lacks that raucous merriment and uninhibited chaos of a home setting. Sigh. Anyway, as long as the old folks are happy I guess. Here's where I envy my Chinese girlfriends who are not married to Chinese husbands, they still get to spend the reunion feast with their own families.

Anyway, enough ramblings for the day... here's a little something for the upcoming V Day; using Sketch #47 from Cardabilities. I made this simple 6' x 6' card with some old American Crafts Romance papers bought at a clearance bargain from a LSS *heehee* There are basically lots of fussy cutting here with some liquid pearls and gem accents.
Thanks for looking! If you're Chinese, part-Chinese or part of a Chinese family somehow, have an awesome reunion dinner tonight! See you again after the Lunar New Year celebrations! XOXOMarinahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07767103834688080781noreply@blogger.com16tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-301732385133183825.post-82515625452833837582012-01-19T15:06:00.005+08:002012-01-19T15:24:27.598+08:00Always RememberIn my last post, I alluded to some major changes to my current circumstances, so here's my reveal; I'll be going back to full time work! Yes, after over a year of being a stay-home-mum I'm returning to the corporate world. Right after CNY (Chinese New Year), I will be joining a multinational beauty company in the marketing capacity. This means I will see much less of my dear Lucas and also alot less scrapping time. However, I'm looking forward to my new role and the excitement and challenges that comes with building a career. While I do enjoy my precious moments with Lucas all this time, there's always a part of me that miss the adrenaline rush and drive of being in the game, all the challenges and accomplishments of my past ten years of work are what made me who I am today and I look forward to picking up where I left off.

So without much ado, let's get into today's post. These 2 weeks are especially poignant for me as I mentally and emotionally prepare my heart to be strong when I'm away from my son, I came up with this layout to remind myself and him, that no matter what, he'll always be my reason why. Why I chose to work and be away from him is ultimately good for us both. And when I go through rough patches, I'm motivated and comforted knowing that I do all this so that we can both have a better life in the future. I sometimes worry if I can cope with the challenges of being a working mum, I look around me and see alot of successful women who maintains a balanced family and work life, I'm encouraged. Also, I hang on to the promise of this verse; "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" [Philipians 4:13 NKJV] And to top it all off, I'm thankful to have a supportive husband and a super helpful and supportive mum who will be vital in caring for Lucas in my absence.
Thanks so much for dropping by and reading my ramblings :) Have a glorious weekend ahead, and to my Chinese readers, may you have a happy and blessed new year filled with joy and abundance. And remember, say NO to sharksfin and go easy on the cookies hehehe :D
I know I've been so quiet since Christmas, and I didn't even manage to post a proper New Year greeting but hey better late than never; so here I am! Hope everyone had a memorable and wonderful New Year celebration. As for us; we stayed home with lil Lucas and watch the amazing fireworks display at The Curve (neighborhood mall). Yup, we're blessed with the most awesome front-seat view minus the crowd, traffic and parking madness on the eve of New Year.

Anyway, I haven't had time to scrap at all, been busy with some commissioned jobs and cards for the upcoming Chinese New Year (CNY). Also, some major changes are coming up to my current circiumstances, 2012 will indeed be a great year of change and fresh new beginnings for me so I've been really occupied with alot of preparations etc... I will announce this major change soon heehee. Stay tune then :P

On top of that, I've been busy working on a Valentine's Day project which will be a class somewhere in February, here's a sneak preview, details will be announced soon :)
Christmas is so wonderfully placed at the end so we can all close the year well with gift-giving and spending time with our loved ones. I guess most of you are still busy with your year-end holiday crafting of cards and gifts...and I hope all your shopping, baking, wrapping and party planning are going well according to plan :)

For me personally, Christmas is much more of a time to reflect on the real Reason for the Season, where a Savior was born in a manger 2000 years ago so He could be Lord of our lives evermore. I take the opportunity of this blessed season to be thankful for that and for all the wonderful blessings through the year.

So in the spirit of the season, I hope you will indulge me and allow me to share some festive pics...
I always try baking something special over the past few Christmases (again, before baby came along!) These were some jam cupcakes I made for one of my elaborate Christmas eve dinners. This year, everything is store bought and we're eating OUT! LOL!

Well, alas, I'm sad to say we're not even putting up a tree this year cos Lucas is in his WALKING and PULLING DOWN EVERYTHING stage so a big tree full of shiny ornaments is a major baby hazard! Unlike previous years, I won't be whipping up a massive feast either LOL! I guess Lucas and my scrap work has taken way too much out of me. Perhaps next year... who knows... :)
Oh here's one more; it's a pic of my dad (in red) and hubby trying to carve a turkey LOL. I just love reminiscing past Christmas memories :)

Anyway, I have much to be thankful for this Christmas, the highlight of my year is definitely my new venture into the world of crafting and scrapbooking which started early this year. I never would have imagined a simple exercise to make a baby album would lead me this far and unearth this hidden 'ability' to put paper and glue together which I never knew I had. I praise the good Lord for that :) Also, this lil' hobby of mine has brought me many wonderful friends and fellow crafters. I've made really good friends who are supportive, encouraging, inspiring and simply just WONDERFUL! Thank you amazing and talented fellow crafters, artists, scrappers and cardmakers for generously sharing your works of art, your techniques, your tutorials, your sources and supplies, EVERYTHING! And a special shout out to my ATC swap buddies *kiss*kiss* I'm just so blessed and I hope and pray you will have a lovely holiday and a joyous bright New Year ahead! :)
She requested for a photo scrapping inside so he can display it in his office so I created a large 5" x 8" card using CardPattern's Sketch 146.
