3 Generations Layout

This is a priceless photo of my hubby with his brothers and dad and baby Lucas taken during his first birthday party back in September. It's all THREE generations of the Chin men all together! How wonderful is that?

The layout is inspired by Sketchy Thursdays plus further inspiration from Scrap-It-lah. Below are the criteria on Scrap-It-lah's Elia's October Challenge:

1.      Old book paper, sheet music or something similar downloaded off the internet & printed out.

2.      Fussy-cutting.

3.      Hand-stitching using embroidery floss.

Here's my layout:

Priceless photo of all 3 generations! Alas, Lucas is fast asleep here but oh well, it's still a wonderful shot nonetheless. It's not easy to get everyone together for a photo opp :) Hubby's the one in the center with the wide smile holding Lucas.

Sketch 10.27 on Sketchy Thursdays. Love this sketch! The flaglines are so cool :)

I'm using Simple Stories' Generations collection here. Just simply LOVE this collection! Here are some close-ups:

Title says: "3 Generations of Chin Together" (Chin is my husband's family surname). Some fussy-cut flowers here as well.

Scrolls made with old book paper and tied with floss. The doily shape is fussy cut and hand-stitched with floss.

Border die cut with Spellbinder and hand-stitched with floss

Background is spray misted with some TA in Red Velvet. The flagline is held together by these gorgeous MM antique copper brads and more floss.

I'm glad I managed to complete this LO and upload in time, thankfully Lucas decided to take a long nap today otherwise I don't think I would have made it! *pheeewww* :) Anyway there's still time to play-along, so head on over to Scrap-It-lah's  and Sketchy Thursdays now :)

Sketchy Thursdays 9.15: Getting Ready 4 Sun!

Here's my take on this week's sketch, which I thought was perfect to scrap a sunny beach layout with some of Lucas' vacation pics :)

Paper is Bo Bunny's Barefoot & Bliss which I won as a RAK from Scrap-It-Lah's July challenge :) *thanks!!!*
I cut strips of paper and used them as a mask before I misted the background with TA Turquoise Blue and Midnight Blue.

Such a bold and exciting sketch! They are having a join challenge with Scrap Fit but I won't be using their criteria (Friendship) for this LO just yet. But thanks to this collaboration I've discovered Scrap Fit so I'll keep an eye out for their future challenges  :)

I'm using Pink Paislee's Mistable scalloped borders here. Misted in TA colors. The texture behind that is made using 2 layers of medical gauze painted over with acrylic paint. I fussy cut the 'waves' and accented them with stickles. Jute twine local supply.

Tag by Martha Stewart, journaling bits cut out from the collection kit papers.

Water waves effect created using some gesso and a scrapper. The 'seafoam spray' is created using various shades of Ranger Liquid Glue and Stickles. The bottom polka dot effect is made with a Punchinella as a mask, using Ranger Distress Ink Pad Stormy Sky.

Small text October Afternoon, large foam alphas AC Cappuccino.

Check out that sunny smile!!! It took alot of crazy mad song & dance plus jumping up and down to get him to smile for the camera!  Anyway, here he is holding his baby sunblock which we were about to apply on him so we can take him to the beach.

Sketchy Thursdays 9.1 Challenge: Grand Pa

This sketch gave me just what I needed to scrap these small photos of my dad with Lucas.

Sketch 9.1

 Here's my take on the sketch, I know I'm straying off a little, I decide to go with circles so the small pics stand out more. I also moved the title to the top right corner.

It's a very simple layout with a musical theme. My dad is a musician, he sings beautifully. He's always singing to Lucas everytime they meet. Now if only Lucas will inherit those music talent genes :P

Alphas are AC Platform. "Listen" chippie by Creative Imaginations. Inks and mist; TH Distress Inkpad in Victorian Velvet, TA Glimer Mist in Red Velvet and Mister Huey's Mist in Warm Calico.

Tulle trim by Bo Bunny Gabrielle. White lace doiley trim is actual the backing of the actual sticker (Basic Grey), no waste right? :) Other trims local. Blooms; Prima, Kraft tag; Martha Stewart, ticket findings; MM.

Dusty Attic scroll chippie painted in TH Distress Ink Victorian Velvet. The polka dotted effect is made with a punchinella as a mask and distress ink, it's actually the same shade as the chippie but I think the foam pad was 'contaminated' with another shade, but it turned out pretty good :P

Patterned papers are 7Gypsies Paddington's Kilburn and MME's Laundry Line. Background sheet music stamp by Anna Griffin.

Sketchy Thursday's September GDT Challenge

Here's my submission for ST's GDT challenge ... being a total bookworm, I just  LOVE the idea about books! :)

Here's the sketch:

Aside from the sketch, this is the additional criteria: please theme your layout something about reading.  It could be about your favorite book, use a line from a story, use some cover art as inspiration, etc.

Here's my interpretation:

It's a studio portrait of me (taken during the pre-wedding shoot back in '07) with some of my favorite books. The theme of the LO is really to emphasize my love for books and how books has given wings to the world of my imagination. If you notice i wrote down the names of some of my favorite authors and also one of my favorite quotes about books.

Here are some close-ups:

Close up of the photos. You might catch a glimpse of my "surname" peeking at you from my ankle ;) It's the Chinese character of my family name hehe.

Long title as required. It's true, I can't imagine my life without the books I've read throughout my life. Often, it's deep within the pages of a book where my mind is truly alive and reality fades away.

Some of my favorite authors. There's not enough space to have them ALL here. I guess it's pretty obvious I'm a fiction fan ... fantasy, thrillers and anything thought provoking works for me. There's nothing being swept away by pages and pages of ink on paper to an unknown world where anything is possible. However, I do not read self-help books, can't stand them.

This LO is fairly simple, without much arty techniques because I wanted to focus on the bookish theme. I've used CC Odds & Ends, Prima Madeleine, FP Baby Mine, random scraps of patterned papers and some Prima flowers. Alphas are AC Thickers and BG.

Sketchy Thursdays 8.11 Sketch Challenge

Hello crafters... I hope you're all having a lovely week so far. I've been so busy planning Lucas' birthday party happening on the 4th September and many other things .... one of it is creating a signage and guest book for a wedding. I'm so excited about that, it's like my first wedding project heheh, I should be able to share that project once the wedding is over by September :)

I also need to share one more happy news... I'm so glad and relieved when my parcel from Two Peas arrived over the weekend. I was worried because two of my parcels from Cherry On Top already came way ahead of this order. I was so afraid it got lost in transit especially at this side of the world as I've been hearing so many horror stories about untraceable USPS parcels getting lost or misplaced. I've been eagerly waiting for the FP Baby Mine kit. It took around 3 weeks plus but the whole lot came safe and sound :)

Anyway, let's get down to the fabulous sketch from Sketchy Thursdays ...


Sketch 8.11

 Here's my interpretation:

Some sleepy pictures of Lucas at around 4 weeks old. I'm using Melissa Frances Antonia for the background, misted in TA Turquoise and Green. patterned papers and chipboard embellies are all Fancy Pants Baby Mine. Journaling tag is Basic Grey, blue fabric bloom is Prima.

Title alphas are FP Baby Mine (Precious) and BG (Good Morning). I matted the photos with some natural sticky-back canvas from Claudine Helmuth.

How do you like it? I'm usually quite stuck when doing baby boy LOs especially when I can't go trigger happy with blooms and butterflies and lace etc hehehe but I think this collection made it all so easy! Love love love Baby Mine!!! (I still managed to sneak in one big bloom though LOL!)

Sketchy Thursday 8.4 Sketch: New Toy!

Here's my first participation on Sketchy Thursday. I'm scrapping some pictures of my boy on his new walker. These were taken back in May when he was about 8 months old.

Look how happy he is with the new walker! I'm using mainly Studio Calico's June Paper Moon Kit.

The inspirational sketch.

Finally got to make use of this hand-stitched tag which came with the SC kit. Was saving it like forever.

I got myself a new stash of buttons... comes in handy for those fun boyish layouts where I can't go crazy with butterflies and flowers.

The journaling didn't quite come out quite right due to the over-enthusuastic orange paint! Anyway it says: "ENJOY yourself and have FUN on this lovely DAY on your brand new walker!" Metal plates are American Craft's Elements.
